Lyrics I Relate To: The Offspring

Some of my fondest memories of living in Thailand was the divers group of TCKs (Third Culture Kids) I found myself friends with.  The exchanging of jokes, movie suggestions, music suggestions, and truths always had me wondering what each day held.  The Ledoux family stayed on the American compound  I also resided at and I became fairly tight with Alex and Kyle Ledoux.  They had lived abroad like myself prior to coming to Chiang Mai, Thailand.  We were aloud to play music on the shuttle we took to school and we'd often take turns playing are favorite cd's on the shuttle.  This is how I discovered the angelic vocals of Chester Bennington (Linkin Park), Blink-182, and The Offspring.  Through the weak-ass speakers our shuttle had I heard:

Some days, my soul's confined and out of mind
Sleep forever
Some days, my darkest friend is me again
Have you ever
Someday I'll try again and not pretend
This time forever
Someday I'll get it straight but not today
Have you ever

When the truth walks away
Everybody stays
Cause the truth about the world is that crime does pay

So if you walk away
Who is gonna stay
Cause I'd like to think the world is a better place

When the truth walks away
Everybody stays
Cause the truth about the world is that crime does pay

'Cause the truth about the world is that crime does pay
So if you walk away
Who is gonna stay
’Cause I'd like to think the world is a better place

For a young black kid still mourning the loss of his grandfather, accepting death as an inevitability, in search of honing in on a passion to turn into a profession, all while in Chiang Mai, The Offspring was vital to me coping with reality.  I felt lost and was in need of something/someone to relate to.  The lyrics I referenced come from the song, "Have you ever".  A song I draw to often.  Check it out below.
