"Here's the thing fam, I feel like its all depth and no humor", said Julian. My friend Julian is a comedian based in Pennsylvania and we often labor over jokes and words. I've learned a lot from him and we have always enjoyed debating about punchlines. I disagreed with him for my comic strip idea about existential dread though. There's something humorous to me about likening the crippling weight of existential dread to pushing a boulder up a hill.
Like any other facet of art and creativity, humor has its genres. There's dark humor, dry humor, self-deprecating, physical, and more. I've always been a fan of dark, existential, and dry humor. My affinity for those particular styles are reflected in my strips and I hope they resonate with the audience as funny. If they don't I'll settle for entertaining or hope they serve as a few seconds for escapism for someone.
